Two female detainees go on hunger strike
Two female prisoners of Chisinau penitentiary No. 13 went on hunger strike a week ago, asserting they were jailed unfairly. They demand that the courts review their convictions, press officer of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions Ana Druta has told Info-Prim Neo.
According to Ana Druta, the detainees are held in a separate cell, as the procedure requires, and are frequently visited by a doctor. They are now in a stable condition and out of danger.
Relatives of the women Sunday protested in front of the penitentiary, demanding that they be set free.
One of the prisoners is 43. She was found guilty of trafficking in human beings. The sentence in her case was passed, but has not yet come into force. The second detainee is 19. She is accused of committing perjury.
