Two other minibus drivers fired

Two minibus drivers in Chisinau were recently fired for repeatedly breaking traffic rules. Their dismissals follow 8 other such cases, reports Info-Prim Neo. Adrian Boldurescu, head of the General Public Transport and Communications Department stated on Monday at the City Hall meeting that after a monitoring made between July 16 and 27 there 87 registered minutes. The most frequent breaches are stops in prohibited places, rising up to 50 cases. Also, the drivers often don’t buckle their seatbelts, ignore the red light and do not follow traffic priority in intersections. According to Boldurescu, the situation is statistically better. “Apparently, the number of violations is decreasing, but we will see, it is too early to draw conclusions”, said Adrian Boldurescu. In this context, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca requested that the monitoring be continued and concomitantly discussions be held with route administrators, because starting September the passenger flow will increase and overloads and the rush for passengers will re-ensue. The inspections were conducted by the General Public Transport and Communications Department in collaboration with the Traffic Police, after the minibus drivers asked for an increase in fares. The Mayor replied that an increase is possible if the drivers learn to abide by the traffic regulation and work legally.
