U.S. Ambassador visits Basketball Camp for Moldovan Girls

On Monday, April 27, U.S. Ambassador James D. Pettit will be visiting the final in a series of five camps to train youth from around the country in the American sport of basketball, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the U.S. Embassy.

Supported by the U.S. Embassy, this camp is led by American basketball legend Alice “Ruthie” Bolton, one of the premier players of the American women’s basketball league and a member of two U.S. Olympic gold medal teams. Alice Bolton is joined by American couch Mike Grinder, who currently is helping to develop basketball in Moldova. Participants of the camp include about 60 girls from Briceni, Bender, Donduseni, and Chisinau.

Called “Building Bridges through Basketball,” the series of four-day camps over a period of six months has been conducted in partnership with the Chisinau-based Admirals Basketball Academy. During the project, the Embassy also donated about $3,000 in basketball equipment to local youth teams.
