The applicants will have to first get a visa and find a job in the U.S. Earlier, the young people were able to get a visa and go to the U.S. to find a job there.
The new rules apply to Russia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, Bulgaria, and Romania. According to the U.S. authorities, the measure is aimed at preventing the illegal employment or cheating of the students.
“There were many incidents when the program participants were employed illegally or involved in activities that are not covered by the program,” said Richard Beer.
The program Work & Travel is very popular with the students, mainly in summer. The young people go to the U.S. to work for 3-4 months and must then return home.
