{Join us for Theater. Starting with September 8, the agency Info-Prim Neo will publish a series of news stories about the 2009-2010 theatrical season as seen by the Moldovan actors, with the prepared surprises.} The Balti-based National Theater “Vasile Alecsandri” invites the spectators to a new theatrical season that will include premieres, creation soirees and many plays for children. According to the theater's director Anatol Racila, the season opens on October 19 with a creation evening of artist Emilia Lupan. The actress will also perform the leading role in the monodrama [“I'm Waiting for You, My Love”] by Dario Fau on the same day. “The play will be staged on the day when Emilia Lupan turns 60. We considered it right to start the season with the creation soiree of Emilia Lupan, who has been on the stage for 38 years,” Anatol Racila said. He also said that the National Theater “Vasile Alecsandri” this year has produced three new plays. One of them, [“Prostitute on Tuesdays”] written by Gheorghe Calamanciuc and directed by Anatol Racila, will be performed on October 20. “It is a play about the fate of our women, who prostitute themselves in the chase for money and a better living and cannot love anymore, but still hope that the love will return to them,” the director said. Another novelty is the play [“The Water is Coming”] by Dumitru Matcovschi. “On October 20, Dumitru Matcovschi celebrates his birthday (he was born in 1939). The play will be performed on October 21 so that the author could also attend,” Anatol Racila said. It relates the Moldovan people's tragedy and the story of the two sad banks of the Nistu “which are full of mud, but also of hope.” On October 22, there will be put on the play [“May Night Dream”] after Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu's “Three Emperors”, directed by Mihai Volontir. “It is a musical comedy that involves many young actors,” the director said. Ion Druta's [“Belfry”] directed by Ion Marcoci will be staged on October 23. It is a play about the soul and faith of the Moldovan people. The play [“Halberd”] by Mihai Sadoveanu will be performed on October 26. “It is a popular play, which is also studied in schools. Many spectators come to see it,” Anatol Racila said. There will be also staged older plays like [“Magic Eye”] by Mihai Volontir, [“Vacation Game”], by Emil Gaju, [“Chirita”] by Gheorghe Urschi, ["Ivan Turbinca”] by Ion Creanga, directed by Leonid Cibotaru. Plays for children will be put on every day. On October 19, the children are invited to the play [“Victory and Love”] by Valeriu Josan, author and director. There will be also produced [“The Soul for a Doll”] by Adrian Graur, directed by Anatol Racila, [“Golden Bracelet”] by Victor Ignat, [“The Goat with Three Kids”] by Ion Creanga, [“The Little Red Riding Hood”] directed by Valeriu Josan, [“Tandala Gets Married”] directed by Valeriu Josan, [“Creanga, Moving Branch”] by Victor Ignat, [“The Cricket and the Ant”] directed by Leonid Cibotaru, etc. The performances start at 12.00. “We expect the situation to change in our country. We cannot take steps. The previous government cut our subsidies by 26% and we do not have money to produce something new. They tell us not to produce, but the spectators wait for new plays. It is persons who have worked for seven years in the ministry that tell us this. They do not realize what theater is. We will anyway stage new plays,” Anatol Racila said.
