Veterans and pensioners of the Special Destination Police Battalion of the Ministry of the Interior on April 28 will mount a protest in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau to demand that the earlier concessions given to them be restored and that the pensions and allowances be increased. The protesters will also seek a meeting with Prime Minister Pavel Filip to inform him that they are against the uninominal voting system proposed by the Democratic Party and the mixed-member electoral system suggested by President Igor Dodon.
In a news conference at IPN, Valeriu Chicu, chairman of the Veterans and Pensioners Organization of the Special Destination Police Battalion of the Ministry of the Interior, said another demand of theirs is that the state should insure them medically and socially and should also subsidize their car insurance policies.
According to Valeriu Chicu, the prosthetic hospital Crepor no longer promotes their interests and became a commercial institution. Chicu said that every time he wanted to use the hospital’s services based on the permit of pensioner of the Ministry of the Interior, he was always told there were no free beds to receive treatment.
The chairman of the Veterans and Pensioners Organization also said there are over 150,000 false permits in circulation. He believes that this is a reason why the veterans were deprived of concessions on public utilities, dental treatment, etc. Only the public transport concessions remained.
The veterans of the police ask that their monthly allowances should be increased and that the pensions of war veterans should be indexed as the authorities promised.
