Veterans of two armies celebrate Victory Day together

Veterans of the Soviet and Romanian Armies celebrated on Saturday, May 7, the victory against fascism. They were joined by Prime Minister Vlad Filat, who thanked them for their sacrifice, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I wished them to be healthy and I thanked them for the sacrifice they made in order for us and for next generations to live in peace. I’m glad that, for the second consecutive year, veterans of both armies gather at a common ceremony”, said Vlad Filat. The veterans were offered a festive table and a concert of folk music. For them, May 9 is the most important holiday, marking the end of war and their victory. “I was on the battlefront when I was 21 year old. It was terrible, people were shooting each other, and there were bombardments. I injured my leg and stayed 10 days in a hospital. I couldn’t fight anymore, so they sent me home. From the border, I came to Chisinau by foot”, remembers Gheorghe Sobietchi. Another veteran said that May 9 was the most important holiday and that he didn’t wish anyone to experience the terror of war again. “I was sent on the battlefield while serving my term. I endured pain, bullets, cold and hunger, but now I thank God I’m here. We passed through the war and don’t want it to happen again. I don’t even want you to imagine what my life on the battlefield was like. Every moment, I was afraid someone would shoot me and I would never get back home”, said Nicolae Marin. May 9 marks 66 years since the end of World War II.
