The governments that have been in power until present tried to do something for the people, but the present government, on the contrary, worsens the situation of the pensioners even more, the head of the Chisinau Veterans Council Valery Gariev said at a news conference on Tuesday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Representatives of the given organization are indignant at the recent rise in the water and sewerage charges and the bus and trolleybus fares. They threaten with wide protests if the Chisinau Municipal Council's decision to raise the tariffs is not annulled or at least its implementation is not postponed until regulations concerning the payment of compensations for veterans and pensioners are worked out.
“In Bucharest city, which is adored by the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, the pensioners travel free of charge as in the capitals of the neighboring states,” said the Council's representative in charge of Rascani district Vitali Klimenco. He said that the veterans are not against increasing the tariffs when the rise is justified, but this rise should match the people's incomes and be accompanied by compensations for those in need. “We are ready to defend out rights. We urge all those who traveled freely by public means of transport on the basis of pensioner's card to continue showing them and not pay the fare from October 1.”
The veterans also say that the Moldovan authorities should purchase the property that they owned before the declaration of the country's independence from them. “The Government stole everything that we had built until 1990. They should buy this property from us and pay us larger pensions and ensure decent living conditions for us,” said veteran Mihail Prosvirin.
