Vulnerable family asks for state’s help
“We urgently need a proper home”, say the Protiucs, a couple of 1st grade disabled people with sick children. They have no money but the 800 lei pension and don’t have a place to live. Natalia and Veaceslav Protiuc chose to make themselves heard by responsible bodies through a press conference, as they don’t see the court as a solution, Info-Prim neo reports.
“Protiucs’ situation is a problem of the state because a solution couldn’t be found after such a long time. Local or central authorities should’ve solved Protiucs’ lack of a lodging, and not the court. A process is an inefficient solution”, claims lawyer Velentin Fediuc.
According to conference organizers, the Protiucs came to Chisinau two years ago for a medical control of their second child. They were offered a temporary apartment by Blind People’s Society. Previously, they lived in poor room in the outskirts of Balti. On February 23, they were ousted from the apartment in Chisinau and accused of abusively occupying it. The lawyer said this happened illegally, as the Protiucs lost clothes, food and their children’s medicines.
Valentin Fediuc says that in 2005, 5 million lei were allotted for the renovation or building of apartments for blind people. Moreover, international organizations provided additional funding. “Homes have been built, but the Protiucs still don’t have a place to stay. Lodgings were distributed without any control, which is the responsibility of the Blind People’s Society’s and its chairman Dumitru Sclifos’”, said Fediuc.
The lawyer denied Society’s affirmation that the Protiucs had been proposed several compromise solutions. The Protiucs themselves say each time they went to court, their request was rejected.
At the moment, they are staying in an apartment in Balti, rented until June.
