War veterans put forward set of demands to government

Veterans and pensioners of the Special Destination Police Battalion of the Ministry of the Interior will submit a set of demands to the government, which will include increasing the paid allowances and offering social housing that could be purchased after a period of 20 years.

Valeriu Chicu, chairman of the Association of Veterans and Pensioners of the Special Destination Police Battalion of the Ministry of the Interior, in a news conference at IPN said that by increasing the salaries of employees of the law enforcement bodies and by providing them with housing, the police employees will be more motivated to do their job and will feel the respect of the state and society for the work done by them. The veterans also request that the widows should not be obliged to pay taxes for looking after the graves of husbands killed in war.

Valeriu Chicu also read other demands formulated by the veterans, such as raising the allowances given to war invalids from 100 to 500 lei and the financial assistance for dental treatment, namely for prostheses, which is now of 3,500 lei.

The veterans ask to name by an adviser on behalf of veterans in state bodies, who would make the veterans and their problems heard. “We fought for the state and now request the state to be near the veterans because we are not against the state. We want a better attitude and respect for the veterans,” stated Valeriu Chicu.

Another request is to design a model of a common permit for three categories of beneficiaries: veterans, war widows and war participants.
