The water in only two of the 42 springs existing in Chisinau municipality meets the requirements. They are located in the park of Rascani district, near the Saint Trinity Hospital. Contacted by IPN, Irina Grigorescu, doctor hygienist at the municipal Public Health Center, said the results of the laboratory tests done the last few years show that the quality of spring water has worsened owing to the unauthorized waste dumps and underground leakages.

According to Irina Grigorescu, it’s not enough to perform works to clean the green areas. The underground leakages into the phreatic waters must be reduced, while the population should be more responsible and should not throw waste in green areas.

The head of the Green Areas Association Eliferii Haruta said there are 16 springs in the green areas of Chisinau. The areas around them are cleaned daily. Laying out works are performed there two times a year. The most serious situation is in the Park “Valea Trandafirilor”, where an apartment building is erected nearby, on Milestiului St.

The municipality announced that it will allocate money from the local budget for executing cleaning and laying out works at springs every year and on the National Greening Day celebrated at the end of October.
