Worker dies electrocuted in suburb of Chisinau

A worker died electrocuted during construction works after the machine he was maneuvering from the ground touched a high-voltage cable. The incident happened in a village of Chisinau municipality on June 6, but the supplier informed about the case now, IPN reports.

Premier Energy Distribution said that the arm of the pump installation that touched the high-voltage cable was operated by remote control by another person. Two workers jumped to the aid of the electrocuted man. He was rushed by an ambulance to the hospital, but could not be saved.

“The accident was the result of the violation of the minimum permissible distances from the conductive parts of the 10 kV overhead power line and the initiation of works in the protection zone of electrical networks without coordination with the owner of the power line,” reads a press release issued by Premier Energy Distribution.

The case is being investigated by the police, the Energy Supervision Department of the National Agency for Energy Regulation and the State Labor Inspectorate.

Companies and individuals owning and using special equipment that during maneuvering can reach or go above the conductors of overhead power lines are requested to carry out an information session with their staff about this tragic case and training on the specifics of working in protection zones of electrical networks.
