The Ministry of Education and Research will constitute a working group that will investigate the possibility of regulating the use of mobile phones in schools. The group will come up with a public policy note, after which it will be decided whether to introduce these provisions in the Education Code or not, IPN reports.
On Facebook Live, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said that the working group will be created next week. Its purpose will be, on the one hand, to analyze how other countries act, what the scientific literature says on this subject, and on the other hand, to look at practical aspects: what regulations on the use of mobile phones would mean; where the phones will be stored, what actions the school will take in different circumstances, but also to learn from the experience of Moldovan schools that already regulate mobile phone use.
The minister is hopeful that after two-three months of analysis, a public policy note will be presented and a decision will be made on how to move forward and, possibly, the respective provisions will be introduced in the Education Code.
Dan Perciun noted that from the discussions he had so far, he realized that such an idea is supported by teachers and parents.
The official said that the Chisinau High School “Mircea Eliade” banned the use of mobile phones at lessons in March. Schools can do this today through internal regulations.
