Young man detained in connection with October 14 explosion released

The young man who was detained on suspicion of involvement in the October 14 grenade explosion in central Chisinau was set free, but the investigation goes on. The man has an alibi and was excluded from the criminal case owing to the lack of evidence, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General's Office Maria Vieru has told Info-Prim Neo. At a meeting of the prosecuting group set up to investigate the case, it was announced that no person is now under arrest in connection with the explosion, but that a number of suspects are being investigated. The Prosecutor General's Office avoids saying how many persons are suspected of involvement in this case. The Chisinau authorities describe the grenade explosion in the Great National Assembly Square on October 14 as an act of terrorism. Forty-two persons were injured in the explosion. The person who threw the RG-42 grenade is liable to up to 15 years in jail.
