Young people may benefit from discounts in Moldova and abroad
The Moldovan young people can benefit from discounts on a number of products and services if Moldovan obtains international discount cards. Minister of Youth and Sport Ion Cebanu said such an attempt was made a year ago with the assistance of an NGO, but this should be done at state level, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The holders of such cards will benefit from discounts in Moldova and the countries where this system is used. The system of discounts covers a wide range of goods and services, including trips and transport, accommodation, cultural and recreation institutions, purchases, education, healthcare and beauty, sport.
“The Youth Cards Association, which is an NGO, made an attempt to implement this system, but it did not pay the dues and the cards were thus suspended. We consider that this practice should be applied by a government institution that would guarantee continuity,” said the minister.
He presented a report on the issue to the parliamentary commission on foreign policy and European integration. If the given responsibility is shifted onto a state institutions, there will be needed the approval of this commission.
As a party to this international project, Moldova will have to pay dues of €1 500 a year. There must be ratified a series of documents as in Europe the young people are considered those aged between 14 and 35, while in Moldova – between 16 and 30. The holders of such cards will have to pay a symbolic tax, of 5-10 lei, said Ion Cebanu.
The international youth card is used in the 38 counties that are implementing this project, including
Andorra, Austria, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Cyprus, Finland, Ireland, Hungary, Luxemburg, Malta, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, and Switzerland. There are over 100 000 discount points in these countries.
