The young man who threw a plastic bottle filled with a flammable substance towards the official suite, during the German Chancellor’s visit to Chisinau, was under the influence of drugs and is the subject of 6 other violations, including theft and drug possession. The individual also tried to attack the officials earlier during that day, but was stopped by law enforcers, stated Riscani district prosecutor Igor Popa, at a press conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
According to the prosecutor, the youth is 23 years old. He explains his actions by claiming that he wanted to set himself on fire, as a protest against the police officers who unjustifiably opened criminal files on his name. The arrested youth claims that he had not intended to throw the flammable substance towards the official suite, and that he threw the bottle when it went on fire in order to avoid injuring a nearby policeman.
“Criminal proceedings were started on this case, on the charge of grave hooliganism, and police officers from the Riscani district Police Station are currently investigating the case. All necessary criminal investigation procedures are in process at the moment. Police institutions work around the clock in order to undertake all necessary investigations. Tests will determine the substance from the projected bottle”, stated Igor Popa.
The incident took place on August 22, at 9:00pm, near the Bucuria Factory, on Mihai Viteazu Street. The youth threw a flaming object towards the vehicle of the Prime Minister, while the suite was moving towards the Chisinau International Airport, at the end of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to Chisinau.
