Youth wings of parties urged to cooperate with civil society

The youth wings of the political parties should cooperate with civil society in devising policies on youth. This is one of the proposals formulated in a public debate meeting organized by the National Youth Council of Moldova on April 19, Info-Prim Neo reports. Adviser to the Prime Minister on youth polices Tudor Darie said the young members of the parties should build a bridge between the parties they represent and the National Youth Council. For its part, the Council must be open to the youth organizations of the parties and involve them in the activities they implement. The youth organizations should be regarded as separate players and their role must be recognized, said Tudor Darie. Ion Donea, head of the Youth and Sport Ministry's Youth Program Division, said parties' strategies cover only certain social groups of people and are not discussed with civil society. The political youth and civil society should cooperate. Ina Supac, a representative of the Union of the Communist Youth, said the youth wings should lobby within the party for better cooperation with civil society. “We need a healthy, civically-engaged society,” said Victor Zubcu, head of the Democratic Youth Organization of Moldova. Andrei Spanu, a representative of the Liberal Democratic Youth, said the young members of the PLDM support the cooperation with the civil society organizations. He stressed that the proposals made should be implemented so that they yield results. Minister of Youth and Sport Ion Cebanu said the Liberal Party promotes young persons in politics. He stated that the PL's youth wing aims to actively engage in decision making and reinvigorate the political class. Eduard Mihalas, a member of the Bureau of the National Youth Council, said the proposals submitted during the debates will be used to finalize the bill on youth, several chapters of which are reviewed at the insistence of civil society. According to officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the law on the youth will be passed by the end of June. The debates organized by the National Youth Council of Moldova were the first held this year and were aimed at encouraging the cooperation between civil society and youth organizations of the political parties.
