Activist Fiodor Ghelici says in favor of snap elections

The activist Fiodor Ghelici and his “Moldova mea” NGO are in favor on snap parliamentary and presidential elections. In his opinion, the current Parliament is no longer constitutional, as confirmed by the Constitutional Court.

Speaking at a press conference, Ghelici said that ACUM’s and PSRM’s coalition has been formed under external pressure from the European Union, the United States and Russia. But, he says, civil society cannot accept this. “Why on earth would they think we’d eagerly accept the alliance between ACUM and PSRM? This alliance will be even worse than that of 2009”, stated Fiodor Ghelici.

The activist said that politicians wasted their occasion to form a coalition within three months, despite receiving salaries throughout this period. This has led to chaos in Parliament and many public functionaries, says Ghelici, are resigning in protest. Therefore, the snap elections called on September 6 are in his opinion a welcome solution that gives people a chance to decide who is more fit to govern.

As for snap presidential elections, Fiodor Ghelici said that in light of compromising footage released recently Igor Dodon had a moral obligation to resign, “like they do it in civilized countries”. Thus, Ghelici said he would petition the Prosecutor General’s Office to investigate the president’s behavior. “We the civil society are in favor of snap presidential elections. We don’t want to see Dodon as president anymore,” said Fiodor Ghelici. The activist also urged foreign ambassadors, in particular from the EU, US and Russia, to “behave correctly and stop imposing their political views”.
