2,400 airguns discovered at Albita border checkpoint
2,400 non-lethal air rifles have been discovered at the Albita border checkpoint. The transporter, a Moldovan citizen, lacked the necessary papers to cross the border with them, Info-Prim Neo learned from a press release of the Romanian Ministry of the Interior.
Today, July 30, at around 11:00 AM, at the border checkpoint Albita-Iasi, a 38 year old Moldovan truck driver wanted to leave the country. After the border police and customs inspectors checked the vehicle, they discovered that a part of the cargo was 2,400 air-rifles.
Further inspection revealed that the rifles belonged to the category of non-lethal weapons with compressed air, which requires an authorization from the Border Police. The driver didn’t have such papers.
The man explained that he was carrying the rifles from Turkey to Ukraine and didn’t know that he had to obtain a special authorization for his cargo.
The Vaslui border police charged the man with illegal traffic of weapons and violation of the weapons and munitions regime. The rifles have been seized for further investigation by the police.
