Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca ordered creating a commission that will inspect the recently repaired 11 streets and sections to determine their state after winter. He wants to convince himself that all the quality standards were met, IPN reports.

Adrian Boldurescu, head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division, said that according to standards, the damage to the street surface after the snow melts should represent at most 4% of the repaired area. If the percentage is higher, the works carried out were of a poor quality.

As regards the hole in the asphalt on Banulescu Bodoni St, at the intersection with Mihail Kogalniceanu St, deputy mayor Vladimir Cotet said that it was formed because of an accident on a sewer pipe. “An armed concrete sewer pipe yielded up to the pressure. The pipes burst because owners of private houses illegal connect themselves to the sewerage system and pour out the pluvial water directly into it,” he explained. The works in such cases last long as they are performed more manually than mechanically.
