Eleven internal customs posts will have a special work program during the Easter holidays. The Customs Service took such a decision with a view to simplifying the payment of the road toll, which is the tax for using the roads paid by owners of vehicles registered outside Moldova, IPN reports.

The customs posts Chisinau, Balti, Ungheni, Edinet, Drochia, Causeni, Falesti, Orhei, Calarasi, Hancesti and Comrat will work under a special regime on May 1-15. Besides the workdays, they will also work on Saturdays, Sundays and during the official holidays stipulated in the Labor Code, from 08.00 until 17.00. The road toll at border crossing points can be paid round the clock during seven days a week.

The owners of vehicles registered outside the country can pay the road toll at any bank or by transfer. Afterward, they will show the registration certificate and the proof of payment at one of the internal customs posts. A person can pay the road tax instead of another person by power of attorney.

If the period of validity of the road toll expires on a nonworking day or a holiday, except for the period between May 1 and 15, the vehicle owner will pay the tax afterward, plus a fine of 2,000 to 6,000 lei, depending on the overdue period and the status of the private individual or legal entity.

Iurie Ceban, director of the Customs Service’s Law Implementation Department, warned that there are persons selling false road toll certificates. Such a case was reported at the customs post in Vadul lui Voda, where a former employee of the law enforcement bodies presented a false certificate.

The Customs Service submitted a set of proposals to the Ministry of Finance for simplifying the road toll payment process or for extending its period of validity so as to improve accessibility and remove the dependence on holidays or working hours.

The motorists from abroad who stay in Moldova for 30 days pay a road toll of €7, for 90 days - €15, while for 180 days - €25. The means of transport with foreign license numbers that entered Moldova before November 1, 2012 do not pay road tax.
