Consumer protection inspector arrested for passive corruption
Anticorruption officers arrested an employee of the Main State Inspectorate for Market Surveillance, Metrology and Consumer Protection on suspicion of passive corruption, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a communique, the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime says the inspector asked for 4,000 lei from a company director for overlooking the violations identified during an inspection and for not imposing a fine of 20,000 lei.
The inspector was arrested when the company director was giving him 2,000 lei of the 4,000 lei, which were marked “bribe”.
The inspector faces up to 10 years in jail or a fine of up to 60,000 lei for passive corruption. In both of the cases, he will be banned from holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of up to five years.
