A delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is taking part in the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), held in Strasbourg. During April 7-11, MPs from the 46 PACE member states will debate a number of topical issues, IPN reports.
In an emergency procedure, the parliamentarians will discuss the war in Ukraine, the call for an immediate end to the Gaza blockade in, the protests in Serbia and the situation in the Western Balkans, as well as the erosion of freedom of assembly in Hungary, the press release of the Moldovan Parliament reads.
The participants in the session will also examine the annual progress report of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights and the one on the observation of the February 9 parliamentary elections in Kosovo.
On Tuesday, lawmakers are due to elect a judge of the European Court of Human Rights and treat issues related to the interconnections between the Council of Europe and the European Political Community, foreign interference and an end to collective expulsions of foreigners.
Other debates planned for the spring session concern the respect for the rule of law and the fight against corruption within the Council of Europe, as well as the draft Council of Europe Convention on the protection of the environment through criminal law.
The Moldovan delegation is led by MP Ion Groza, deputy chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration.
