Medically insured persons have access to annual prophylactic examinations. The health policy also covers dental emergencies. In cases of emergency, the services are provided including on nonworking days or holidays, at health institutions contracted by the National Health Insurance Company.
In a response to IPN, the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) said that dental medical assistance is provided according to the territorial principle. Adult patients receive a free annual prophylactic examination. They are also offered free services in case of dental emergencies. For children and pregnant women, therapeutic medical assistance is also covered. The services are provided with or without local/general anesthesia, depending on the need.
Emergency dental assistance is provided to all insured persons, in case of acute pulpitis, acute apical periodontitis, acute aphthous stomatitis, acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis and stomatitis, abscess and other acute diseases.
Dental treatment for medically insured adults includes tooth extractions on medical indications, treatment of acute infections of the oral cavity. If necessary, patients are given access to paraclinical services or to radiodiagnostic examinations, if necessary.
In case of dental emergencies, no appointment or referral note from the family doctor is required. The patient goes directly to the medical institution that provides dental assistance. For the other non-urgent cases, it is necessary to schedule an appointment.
Dental services are provided in dental clinics, municipal and district centers contracted by the CNAM. The visit can be made from Monday to Friday, according to the work program of the contracted provider.
For 2025, 60 contracts with dental care providers were concluded.
In case of dental emergencies on nonworking days or holidays, doctors will be on duty at municipal, district providers. These services are also provided at the Emergency Medicine Institute.
572,000 visits were made in 2024 to dental care providers. Most of them - 201,000 visits - were recorded in the municipality of Chisinau.
Over 136 million lei was allocated in 2024 for dental services. For 2025, contracts to the value of 159.4 million lei were concluded.
