Dorin Chirtoaca suggests switching over to mobile trade

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked that only mobile trading units like vehicles and trailers should be allowed on the streets of Chisinau in the future. He noted yet that the authorizations to kiosks that worked before relocation should be extended, IPN reports.

According to the mayor, they should switch over to mobile street trading gradually. “This kind of trading should be temporary and it’s better for it to be mobile. The problem of kiosks and stands is more serious as these have foundations, water and sewer pipes,” stated Dorin Chirtoaca.

He asked to relocate all the trading units from the alley of Mircea cel Batran Blvd in Ciocana district of Chisinau, including the flower boutiques, to the limits of the avenue.

The mayor asked to work out regulations that would govern ambulatory street trading and would ban the static trading units.

Valentina Constantinov, deputy head of the Chisinau Trade, Public Food and Service Provision Division, said such regulations are being drawn up. “We plan to finish the regulations this week. They will clearly stipulate that the decisions about the location of kiosks, type of trading and number of trading units are taken by the district head’s office,” he stated.

According to the Chisinau City Hall, more than 200 kiosks located all over the city were taken away during the last few years.
