Prime Minister Dorin Recean has called for the resignation of the head of the National Penitentiary Administration, Anatolie Falcă. It comes after convicted murderer Alexandru Sinigur, sentenced to life imprisonment, was recently released from prison, IPN reports.
"The ANP is precisely the institution that should take into account all the risks of releasing prisoners, not let abuses happen," the prime minister said.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean had announced that the authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether the release of Alexandru Sinigur was due to loopholes in the legislation or abuses.
Falca has not yet reacted to the premier's announcement.
But he said recently that the ANP was obliged to execute the judge's ruling and that the institution he represents has challenged the decision at the North Court of Appeal.
"The lawyer took the judgment of release, came to the prison and showed it to the chief. He was released on Article 91, inhuman conditions," said ANP Director Anatolie Falca during the hearing of the Council for the Prevention of Torture Report.
Alexandru Sinigur, alias "Синий", sentenced to life imprisonment, was released from prison last week. Yesterday, however, he was detained by law enforcers in another criminal case in which he is accused of murder.
