Fees for product safety testing will rise

Fees paid by both individuals and businesses for product safety tests will rise by 20 to 50 percent, depending on the type of the test and method applied, Info-Prim Neo reports. Health Minister argued that in recent years the reagents and diagnostic chemicals used in the tests have risen in price, so the current tariffs do not cover the actual costs of the institutions providing such services. The list approved by the Government contains over 300 testing services that will increase in price, including sanitary and chemical tests of the air and soil in the production area, bacteriological tests, disinfection and disinfestation services etc. The largest fee – of 4,896 lei – will be charged for the sanitary expertise required before registering a new food product or nutritional supplements. The lowest fee – of 5 lei – is for a prophylactic disinfection of swimming pools, baths and saunas. A cost-efficiency analysis of the measures taken to prevent diseases in Moldova suggests that 1,489 lei is saved on average each time a case of sickness is prevented. In some cases, such as the prevention of vial hepatitis C, savings are much greater.
