Intercommunal development association established in Ungheni

Twenty-three town halls from the Ungheni region have established an Intercommunal Development Association (IDA) to foster collaboration between localities. The Association aims to improve public services, attract investment, and implement regional projects, IPN reports.

To ensure the IDA's operation, an intercommunal council has been formed, composed of representatives from the 23 communities that have agreed to jointly provide public services, benefiting over 80,000 residents.

“We are confident that the joint efforts of the first- and second-level authorities in the Ungheni district will result in the implementation of common projects that are both necessary and eagerly awaited by citizens, particularly when it comes to the provision of quality public services,” stated Ina Olearciuc, interim director of IDA Ungheni, at the inauguration event.

One of the main objectives of IDA Ungheni is the modernization of local infrastructure, which is essential for economic development and improving living conditions.

The local authorities, together with the IDA, will assess the current state of infrastructure and propose solutions for expanding and improving public services.

The initiative has been supported by the “EU4Moldova: Focal Regions” program, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP and UNICEF.

A similar institution is expected to be established soon in the Cahul region.
