Recently released criminal leader Alexandru Sinigur arrested in another case

Criminal leader Alexandru Sinigur, alias "Sinii" (“Blue”), who was recently released from prison, was arrested in another criminal case in which he is suspected of murder. The information was confirmed for IPN by the press officer of the General Police Inspectorate Diana Fetco.

Alexandru Sinigur, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, was set free from prison last week. "He was released based on Article 91, inhumane conditions," said the director of the National Administration of Penitentiaries Anatolie Falca.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean on Thursday said that the authorities opened an investigation to determine whether Alexandr Sinigur was released due to loopholes in the legislation or to abuses.

"We started a very serious investigation to determine whether the problem lies in legal loopholes or in abuses and soon we will come up with information," Prime Minister Dorin Recean said when asked about this case at a press conference.

Alexandru Sinigur, alias "Sinii”, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2006, after he was extradited from Russia, for a series of particularly and exceptionally serious crimes committed in Moldova and Ukraine.

He was accused of creating and leading a criminal organization, banditry, hostage-taking, attempted and premeditated murder in aggravating circumstances, acquisition by blackmail, illegal deprivation of liberty. He was also convicted of the murder of businessman Piotr Sary.
