Socialist councilor on the Chisinau Municipal Council Ion Ceban said the boycott announced by a number of political parties over the referendum to remove Dorin Chirtoaca from the mayoralty of Chisinau is a show orchestrated by the current government and the Liberal Party with the aim of protecting the suspended mayor. In a news conference on October 26, Ceban said the given political parties are responsible for the chaos in Chisinau, IPN reports.

According to the Party of Socialists, the essence of this show resides in the non-admission of Dorin Chirtoaca to the campaign to promote the November 19 referendum. Two goals are pursued this way – to victimize Dorin Chirtoaca in the hope that the residents of Chisinau will pity him again and will make common cause with him and to protect Dorin Chirtoaca from the debates that will be held during the campaign as these would have repeatedly revealed his incompetence and the fact that he practically destroyed Chisinau during ten years.

“If he is not convicted, the mayor should be allowed to take part in the campaign for the referendum so that he could defend his position. We consider this is a game played together with the government for the purpose of shifting public focus and freeing him from public pressure,” stated Ion Ceban.

According to the Socialist councilor, all the parties that intend to boycott the referendum are accomplices to keeping the nasty situation in Chisinau. “The chaos, irresponsibility and incompetence should be stopped. This citizen, Dorin Chirtoaca, who is a functionary who should be punished, is protected by the so-called pro-European alliance. The responsibility is borne by those who invite the citizens to stay at home,” said Ion Ceban.

The councilor called on the inhabitants of Chisinau not to allow to be misled and to take part in the November 19 referendum to dismiss Dorin Chirtoaca.
