Corruption in the education system leads to poorly trained specialists who would accept corruption in their professional activity. In order to avoid this, corruption must be rooted out in its incipient forms, while the young people must be educated in a corruption-free environment. For the purpose, the Jurists Union of Moldova will organize meetings with students of a number of universities within the project “Young people as promoters of corruption-free education” that was launched in a news conference at IPN.
Project manager Raisa Grecu, dean of the Law Faculty of the University of European Political and Economic Studies “Constantin Stere”, said they aim to prevent the early, but irreversible corruption of young people. “The innocent young people become initiated into corruption at high school, when they take the Baccalaureate exams, or in universities, where, after the first experience, the future specialists are ready to accept and offer bribe for certain services,” he stated
The launched project is designed to create networks of students at faculties who would disseminate among their mates the belief that corruption has major negative consequences in the long run, even if it may seem a easier way of obtaining something in the short term. “The goal of the project is to prepare the young people so that we have our representatives in these universities. For their part, they will go further. Tomorrow they will be representatives of the justice system, in the special and prosecution bodies,” said the president of the Jurists Union Gheorghe Avornic.
The project is implemented in partnership with the Cahul State University, the State University “Alecu Russo”, the University of European Political and Economic Studies “Constantin Stere” and the Free International University of Moldova. At each of these universities, there will be staged meetings with students of the law faculties and with representatives of the teaching staff.
“Results in the fight against corruption haven’t been yet achieved in Moldova because not sufficient effort is made to prevent this phenomenon. We must cultivate moral standards since childhood and prepare correct specialists with integrity,” said Mariana Baxanean, the representative of Transparency International Moldova.
The project “Young people as promoters of corruption-free education” is financed by the United Nations Democracy Fund through East Europe Foundation.
