PL’s position is inexplicable and damaging, while PLDM and PDM want early elections, statements
Valeriu Strelet, the head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group, said the Liberal Party’s position not to accept presidential candidate Veronica Bacalu is inexplicable and damaging, Info-Prim Neo reports.
As to Mihai Ghimpu’s assertion that they will not support Veronica Bacalu because they don’t know her, Valeriu Strelet said it is ridiculous in the Internet era to say that you know nothing about somebody.
“If the Liberal Party wanted, Missis Bacalu would discuss with them and they would thus know her better. We counted on the Liberals’ promise to vote for the candidate that we will choose and that is supported by the unaffiliated lawmakers,” Valeriu Strelet said after the Parliament’s sitting.
He also said that Mihai Ghimpu’s assertion that Ion Ababii told him he wasn’t decided to run for President is mistaken.
The chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu said that since the name of candidate Ion Ababii was made public, the latter started to receive messages that he should voluntarily withdraw from the race. “All the candidates examined are renowned persons who deserve respect,” he stated.
The leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said that Mihai Ghimpu, by his position, plays the Communists’ game. According to him, Ghimpu thus pays Mark Tkachuk, who helped Dorin Chirtoaca to win the local elections of the summer of 2011.
For his part, Mihai Ghimpu said that fielding two candidates for the presidency, one of whom does not meet the Liberal Party’s criteria, while the other one is completely unknown, is a game played by the alliance partners as they actually do not want the head of state to be elected. He believes that the PLDM and PDM want early elections.
