Romanian facilitates communication and brings people closer, opinions

Knowledge of the official language facilitates communication between people and contributes to a better state of affairs in Moldova. This is the main reason why many Russian speakers decide to attend language courses at the Romanian Language House “Nichita Stanescu” in Chisinau. The last group of students this year received certificates showing that they know the Romanian language on July 29, Info-Prim Neo reports. Among the students were persons of different ages and occupations, but all of them were united by the wish to know Romanian. Economist Liubovi Dobrovenk said she knew Romanian when she started to attend the course, but made mistakes and encountered difficulties in communication. “I think every person who lives in Moldova must know the official language,” she said. Ludmila Vladiuc is a psychologist. She said that before enrolling in the course, she understood Romanian, but could not speak it. “Now I will be able to communicate in Romanian with all those who will address me in Romanian,” she said. Company administrator Eugeniu Furtuna said he came to study Romanian because it is the official language and he uses it in his work. Moreover, his fiancé is a Romanian speaker and he did it for her as well. Eugeniu Furtuna said that in gratitude for his gesture, his fiancé enrolled in a Russian language course. Coordinator of the courses, teacher Alexei Axan said he is glad that the courses are attended by persons who really want to know the language. He stressed the last group of students was very assiduous and asked for a record number of classes compared with the other colleagues. The fifth cycle will start in autumn, but the students there study mainly individually. According to Alexei Axan, grammar is the most difficult aspect of language learning, but the students manage to overcome this difficulty and become proficient in Romanian. He also said that different audio and video methods are used in the teaching process. There are also used topical teaching aids like Info-Prim Neo’s interview “Moldovan people will be accepted into Europe only when they feel comfortable in the official language of their country”, {which was published on April 19, 2010}. “What you do is not only a simple learning process. It is a social effort that involves not only you, but also the members of your families and the people on the street. If the people of this country master Romanian, there will be a peaceful and tolerant atmosphere now when society is extremely politicized, including according to linguistic criteria,” Info-Prim Neo Agency director Valeriu Vasilica said, stressing it was an honor for him to hand over Romanian language certificates to the students. Twenty groups of students consisting of 12-15 persons each have studied Romanian this year at the Romanian Language House “Nichita Stanescu” that is headed by Alexandru Bantos.
