The Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova says that it has carefully analyzed the statements made by the director of the Intelligence and Security Service regarding Russia's involvement in the evasion of justice of MP Alexandr Nesterovschi. The mission notes that the insinuations about alleged interference in Moldova's internal affairs are unfounded and unacceptable, IPN reports.
In a press release, the embassy says it has not received any formal requests for legal assistance from Moldova under existing mechanisms, including bilateral treaties.
"We call on the Moldovan side to refrain from provocative speculations and are counting on a return to a pragmatic dialog on the whole range of issues of bilateral relations, which is in the fundamental interest of the peoples of our states," the Russian Embassy's press release said.
The Director of the Intelligence and Security Service, Alexandru Musteata, announced in a press briefing today that the Russian Federation had helped MP Alexandr Nesterovschi, recently sentenced to 12 years in prison, to escape from prison. The day before his sentencing, he entered the territory of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau and was then transported by a car with diplomatic plates to the Transnistrian region, where he remains to this day under the direct protection of Russian special services.
