Schools, kindergartens, houses of culture to be renovated with Slovakia's financial support

The Embassy of Slovakia in Chisinau Wednesday presented the results of a grants contest and signed social assistance contracts with the winners. The Government of Slovakia will provide assistance to schools, mayors' offices, kindergartens and other social entities through the agency of the Slovakian Foreign Ministry, as part of the program “Together in the 21st Century”. There were signed eight agreements with eight beneficiaries to the value of 38,000 euros, Info-Prim Neo reports. Among the beneficiaries are the Chisinau-based Sports Theoretical High School, which will be outfitted with sports equipment; the kindergarten “Ghiocel” in Catranac village of Falesti district, where the windows and doors will be replaced; the House of Culture in Iscalau village of Falesti district, which will receive money for partial renovation; the Moldova Society of the Blind, whose shelter for blind people will be supplied with technical and sanitary equipment; Zaharovca village of Telenesti village, where the water supply system will be renovated and modernized; Saratenii Vechi village of the same district, where the roof of the school will be repaired, and Glinjeni village of Falesti district, where a road section will be repaired to connect the settlement to the highway. The Honorific Consul of Slovakia to Moldova Iurie Popovici said seven grants are worth 5,000 euros, while the eighth is 2,400 euros. The beneficiaries must contribute 10% of the project's cost. Mayor of Catranac Victor Tatian said the replacement of the doors and windows of the kindergarten will be a nice present for the local children. “We are very glad that we will get money to repair our House of Culture. It has not worked since 1997. We are looking for other funds to repair it completely,” said Margareta Rotari, representative of the Public Association “Iscalenii” of Iscaleni village. Dumitru Sclifos, the head of the Society of the Blind, said a part of the money will be used to organize courses for blind persons living in the shelter, who will then be able to find a job. Slovakian Ambassador in Chisinau Dagmar Rebchekova said Slovakia also provided technical assistance to Moldova in 2007, when there were built 90 artesian wells and a drinking water system in Gagauzia. That project was worth 45,000 euros and was the first of the kind implemented by Slovakia in Moldova. The Ambassador also said that Moldova will be the first to benefit from technical assistance from Slovakia from now on.
