The schools teaching in Romanian in the Transnistrian region are a constant target of the Transnistrian bodies, said Promo-LEX. According to the association, on the left side of the Nistru, particular aspects related to language, ethnicity and culture continue to be used for divisive purposes and to strengthen the legitimacy of the Transnistrian regime, IPN reports.

Although Tiraspol apparently shows openness in the discussions regarding the return of the building of the "Evrika" High School in Rybnitsa, in parallel it carries out a hostile media campaign, labeling the schools teaching in Romanian as instruments of "rehabilitation of Nazism".

It happens in the wake of the introduction of the new version of the history textbook for the twelfth grade. This duplicitous game undermines the credibility of any real negotiation, said Promo-LEX.

Similar narratives have also been promoted by the Kremlin-controlled media in relation to the history textbooks in Ukrainian schools, with the aim of supporting the thesis of "denazification", used as a pretext for the Russian invasion.

Promo-LEX notes that the leader of the Transnistrian administration Vadim Krasnoselsky is the main promoter of these narratives, who uses his public speeches and appearances in the local and Russian media.

"Today, Romanian schools operate on the territory of Transnistria. They are attended by Transnistrian children. It is their parents' choice. We respect it. But we will not allow such history to be taught to them," Vadim Krasnoselsky stated on March 10.

The media campaign carried out by the Tiraspol-controlled media and supported by the Sheriff holding against schools teaching in Romanian represents a serious threat to the right to education and fundamental freedoms, said Promo-LEX.

According to the association, the official Chisinau, as well as the international partners, must continue to monitor the situation and take concrete measures to guarantee the security and autonomy of educational institutions in the Transnistrian region.
