The State Hydrometeorology Service warned about a new danger of storm in the afternoon of May 23. According to the head of the National Weather Forecasts Center Victoria Moiseicev, a new cyclone is approaching Moldova and heavy precipitation is expected in the north-western part of the country.
“This time, the heaviest precipitation will fall in the western part, near the border with Romania, and in the north-west of Moldova, in Briceni district – in the settlements from Costesti-Stanca towards north. Hail is possible,” Victoria Moiseicev has told IPN.
The precipitation that fell in May exceeded slightly the limit of the period. “There was a serious shortage of water in April, but now it was filled,” said the head of the National Weather Forecasts Center.
The largest amount of precipitation fell in northern Moldova – up to 17 liters per square meter, registered at the weather station in Camenca. The central and southern parts of the country witnessed the highest winds that blew in gusts of up to 20 m/s or even 22 m/s at the weather station in Leova.
A new yellow code advisory in connection with the approaching cyclone is expected to be issued.
