The storage capacity of the waste dump in Tantareni village of Anenii Noi district has been only half used, Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru said in a news conference on Tuesday. He stated that the ecological problems should not be mixed up with the political ones, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We must have a joint policy on environment, no matter who comes to power. This policy should be continued. I think we must deal with the environment-related problems together as we have the necessary abilities,” said Gheorghe Salaru. In the same news conference, acting mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu said that negotiations are conducted with the administration of Tantareni to resume the transportation of solid waste from Chisinau to the local waste dump. The Chisinau administration is to plant trees around the village and is ready to provide the residents of Tantareni with free tickets to treatment institutions in Chisinau. In another development, Gheorghe Salaru said that a coagulant identical to that recommended by the EU is used at the Chisinau wastewater treatment station to treat the residue water. He stressed that he does not campaign for the Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau, but wants the ecological problems to be solved, regardless of the political orientation of the Chisinau administration. According to Gheorghe Salaru, when Vasile Ursu was mayor of Chisinau, being supported by the PCRM, a contract was signed to build a waste burning plant. The contract contained a number of shortcomings, but an additional agreement was approved in 2009 in order to remove them. The representatives of the PCRM always find fault in the work of the Chisinau administration. The garbage collected in Chisinau is now stored at the municipal waste dump located in Ciocana district. But this is a temporary measure as the municipal authorities hope to reach an agreement with the Tantareni administration and resume the transportation of waste to the local dump.
