UK transfers nearly $1 billion to Ukraine from frozent Russian assets

Kyiv has received its first $970 million from London, secured from the revenues generated by frozen Russian assets. Ukraine will use these funds to strengthen its defense, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced. Moscow responded by stating that it "will not leave such actions unanswered," IPN reports.

The program under which Kyiv received the funds is called Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration for Ukraine (ERA), initiated by the G7 countries.

"We will allocate these resources to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities," Shmyhal specified.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister expressed gratitude to London and the G7 countries, noting that Kyiv hopes for the confiscation and transfer of all sovereign Russian assets to Ukraine in the near future.

In December 2024, Ukraine received its first $1 billion from the revenues of blocked Russian assets in the United States. According to the plan, Washington is set to provide Kyiv with $20 billion out of a total of $50 billion.
