Army engineers destroyed 23 artillery shells in the village of Cioburciu, Stefan Voda district. The shells were discovered by locals in a forested strip near the village, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the explosive devices were found by residents who immediately alerted the local public authorities.
The "Codru" Engineer Battalion team carried out the demining operation and destroyed the shells under maximum safety conditions, authorities said. It was determined that the 105 mm caliber munitions had remained in the ground since World War II.
Additionally, a group of farmers found explosive devices while working in the fields in the village of Talmaza, Stefan Voda. After inspecting the area, army engineers identified and neutralized two shells, of 152 mm and 75 mm caliber.
In March, army engineers carried out 23 missions, resulting in the destruction of 102 explosive devices and 120 cartridges.
