The new local mayoral elections of May 20 will involve 31 candidates, IPN reports, with reference to a press release of the Central Election Commission (CE.
Of the 31 candidates, 12 run in the municipality of Chisinau, eight in the municipality of Balti, three in Jora de Mijloc commune of Orhei district and by two in Leuseni and Nemteni villages of Hancesti district, Volovita village of Soroca district and Parlita commune of Ungheni district.
The CEC calls on the electoral contenders to conduct a correct election campaign, by observing the rights, freedoms and dignity of their opponents and other electoral subjects, to avoid any methods of corruption, intimidation and obstruction of the free expression of the vote.
The competitors are banned from engaging persons who are not Moldovan citizens in electoral agitation. The candidates cannot use public goods and funds in the election campaign, while the public authorities and institutions and those affiliated to these cannot offer the contenders public goods or other favors if only based on a contract, in equal conditions for all the runners.
The candidates are banned from using images showing state institutions or public authorities in the country and abroad or international organizations for electoral advertising purposes. It is banned using materials showing historical personalities from the Republic of Moldova or abroad, symbols of other states or international organizations or the image of foreign officials.
