Almost 80 families in Chisinau say they are in a desperate situation and fear that they will lose their homes following decisions taken by the Chisinau Court of Appeals. The dwellers accuse the construction company "Elat Neocons SRL" of orchestrating eviction attempts based on decisions that, according to them, canceled their property right even if they had not been summoned and did not have the opportunity to defend themselves, IPN reports.
At a news conference hosted by IPN, a number of dwellers expressed their concerns about the legality of the decisions, saying that these were taken in their absence, without prior notice.
"We were judged, but we were not there. None of those present in the room participated in the court hearing where the fate of our apartments and property was decided," a dweller said at the press conference.
The dwellers noted that the court decisions would be based on a controversial action of "Elat Neocons SRL", which retroactively canceled the cash receipts, which showed that the price of apartments was fully paid. During three years, they lived without incidents in their apartments, until they were summoned to court.
According to the dwellers, the new administrator of the company is trying to recover the money through an expropriation procedure, and this cancellation was justified by alleged internal irregularities of the company. "It is a scam, a serious violation of our rights," they said.
The dwellers noted that they have solid proof of payment for the apartments, including contracts and original receipts, but they face court decisions that seem to legitimize the annulment of this evidence.
The people also demanded that the competent authorities, including the Prosecutor General's Office and the State Tax Service, should determine the legality of these decisions.
