Analysts about Moldova’s status of observer at EEU

Some of the analysts consider the obtaining by Moldova of the status of observer at the Eurasian Economic Union is an act aimed at promoting President Igor Dodon and the pro-presidential Party of Socialists, said experts invited to the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Political commentator Anatol Taranu said the signing of the agreement by Igor Dodon is a pure propagandistic move. “They try to create the impression that this proposal was formulated not by Igor Dodon, but by Vladimir Putin so as to give more weight to this initiative. I do not rule out the possibility that an agreement was reached by Putin and Dodon,” he stated. According to the commentator, they decided that before the parliamentary elections in Moldova Igor Dodon should appear as the promoter of the idea of Moldova’s entry into the Customs Union.

Law specialist Alexandru Cauia, head of the youth organization of the Democratic Party, said the President in Moldova can no way sign by himself treaties on the country’s entry into international organizations, such as the Eurasian Economic Union. The visit paid by Igor Dodon to Sochi was personal and was electoral and political in character and was aimed at making the pro-Russian voters more faithful. “He does not have the power to speak in the name of all the people, as he claims,” stated Alexandru Cauia.

On May 14, the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council decided to offer Moldova the status of observer at the Eurasian Economic Union. The decision was taken unanimously by the heads of the EEU partner states. The meeting involved President Igor Dodon.
