The chairman of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu could soon remain the only Liberal in Parliament, ex-deputy chairman of the PL Anatol Salaru stated in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
“Ghimpu could soon remain without seats in Parliament. According to my information, one of the Liberal MPs is the sympathizer of Maia Sandu. Several MPs could join our party, while others, who run businesses, could join the party that would protect their business. If he remains without MPs, Mihai Ghimpu will leave government and his dream to become Deputy Speaker of Parliament will fade away,” stated Salaru.
The former Liberal heavyweight said the dissatisfactions inside the Liberal Party, including the Liberal parliamentary group, have persisted for a period. “I always wanted the Liberal group to be united. Ghimpu, by his actions, divided the party. Let’s take the case of MP Gutiuc, who had a serious problem and had to stay outside the country for a period. The way in which Mihai Ghimpu behaved towards him angered many Liberals. But the fact that he destroyed the career of his nephew is the most serious thing. Dorin Chirtoaca had a high rating, being among the top three, and the PL’s rating was mainly due to Chirtoaca. Now the PL’s rating is lower than 1%,” he stated.
Anatol Salaru was dismissed from the post of minister of defense last yearend after Mihai Ghimpu announced that they withdrew their political support for him. Earlier, Salaru demanded that Ghimpu should leave the leadership of the PL. At the start of this year, Anatol Salaru announced the launch of a new political project.
