Time is no longer patient with Moldova and all the political factors in Chisinau must be responsible now more than ever, said the chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Association with Moldova, MEP Andi Cristea, quoted by IPN.

“The situation is particularly special and I want Moldova to remain anchored in the European course and to make progress in doing reforms. In the possible Moldovan authorities’ requests of assistance in implementing the justice sector reform and fighting corruption, we are prepared to send European experts to support the Moldovan authorities,” Andi Cristea stated in a meeting with Moldovan journalists in Brussels.

The MEP said he manages the process of reviewing the European neighborhood policy on the part of the Socialist group and does not want the funds that are now available to Moldova through the European neighborhood policy instrument to be diminished. “The Government of Moldova should not neglect the reforms assumed within the Association Agreement and the message I transmit to the Moldovan political class is that progress should be made in doing the initiated reforms,” he stated.

According to Andi Cristea, the fact that Moldova hasn’t been yet penalized by the EU for the delay in implementing reforms does not mean that it won’t be penalized from now on. “We saw the result of last November’s parliamentary elections. A large part of the people want Moldova to come closer to the EU and this is the way that should be followed. I wish the finds for Moldova not to be reduced, but this depends only on the Moldovan political class,” he stated.

The MEP called on the mass media of Moldova to create the civic spirit and to make the ordinary people be more demanding towards the political class so that this really represents their interests.
