The U.S. will continue to support the Republic of Moldova in doing reforms, but these must be complete and must be in the ascendant, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Bridget Brink said in a meeting with Head of Parliament Andrian Candu, IPN reports.
According to the Parliament’s press service, the implementation of reforms, the legislative priorities and political developments in Moldova were the main subjects discussed in the meeting.
Andrian Candu said the acceleration of the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU so as to carry out the overdue measures is a top priority for the legislative body. “One of the key elements that was absent in the justice sector reform is now in place. This is the prosecution service reform. The Law on the Prosecution Service that was recently adopted by Parliament was transmitted to the head of state for promulgation. To manage to do this reform within the set time limits and to bring the justice sector reform to an end, we must yet adopt the related legislation,” he stated.
The Speaker also said that the Parliament’s reform priorities for the immediate future include the adoption in the final reading of the packages of laws on integrity, the financial-banking and energy sectors. Also, the authorities are working out an emergency action plan.
The officials also conferred on the resumption of the discussions with the IMF, the anticorruption actions, the audiovisual reform, the situation in the Transnistrian region and Gagauzia and the more active engagement of civil society in the lawmaking process.
