Candidate for premiership will be nominated Dec. 21

The candidate for Prime Minister will be designated in the afternoon of December 21. After a new round of consultations with the political leaders, President Nicolae Timofti said that a break was taken until next Monday, at the request of the parliamentary groups, IPN reports.

Nicolae Timofti told the journalists that it was unanimously agreed to delay the nomination of a candidate until December 21, 2pm. The leaders of the parliamentary groups argued that they need time for additional talks. “I think this is a very important issue, but there is yet time for taking a break,” he stated.

The head of state has the prerogative to nominate a candidate for Premier as a result of consultations with the parliamentary groups. If a new government is not formed by January 29, the President will have to dissolve Parliament and early elections will be held.
