The period of designation of candidates for the positions of mayor and councilor in localities where new elections will be held on May 18 started on Tuesday. Candidates can be nominated by political parties, electoral blocs, constituted and registered in accordance with the legislation, as well as citizens of the Republic of Moldova who submit their own candidacy.

Candidates for the positions of mayor and member of the local council can be designated after the constitution of the district electoral councils, but not earlier than 60 days before election day.

The procedure for nominating candidates also includes the collection of signatures by people who field themselves or by initiative groups in order to support the candidates for mayor and local councilor.

New mayoral elections on May 18 will be held in Călugăr commune of Falesti district, Chiperceni village of Orhei district, Boldurești commune of Nisporeni district, Talmaza village of Ștefan-Vodă district, and Tabani village of Briceni district. Elections to choose a new composition of the local council will take place in Temeleuți village of Floresti district.
