Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Cemil Çiçek called on the people of Gagauzia not to forget that they are a component part of Moldova and that all the projects must be implemented together. He made the statement after a meeting with representatives of the administration of the region, IPN reports.

“We want everything to go smooth in the region and we will support different projects. Turkey constantly follows the situation in the region,” said the Turkish official.

For his part, Moldova’s Head of Parliament Igor Corman said it is the first visit paid by an official of such a rank to Gagauzia. He underlined that the region has great potential to develop a number of joint projects.

Bashan of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal thanked the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for finding time to visit Moldova and for the assistance provided by Turkey to the Gagauz people. He voiced hope that the relations with the Turkish state will be further developed.

The officials also took part in a join conference at the University of Comrat.
