Communist MPs’ initiative concerning presidential elections to be examined next week

The Communist parliamentary group’s initiative to call presidential elections on October 17 and create a commission for organizing the elections will be examined by the legislative body next week, Info-Prim Neo reports. “In the meeting of the legal commission for appointments and immunities, it was agreed to discuss all the bills put forward by the Communist lawmakers the next time. But we did not reach the conclusion that negotiations will be opened for considering possibilities of overcoming the crisis. It is premature to examine these initiatives now,” said the commission’s chairman Victor Popa. As to the Communists’ initiatives to dismiss the head of the Security and Information Service and the Prosecutor General, the commission considered that the materials presented do not meet the requirements as there weren’t presented the necessary proofs, stated Popa. Communist MP Sergiu Sirbu told the press that the legislature violates the Constitution when it refuses to include the issue of the presidential elections in the agenda. He said he does not believe that the initiated talks will enable the ruling alliance and the opposition to reach a compromise. “We will propose these bills at every sitting and demand that they be included in the agenda,” said Sirbu.
